MP Slams Thames Water Over Record Fine: “Enough is Enough”

Chippenham’s Liberal Democrat MP, Sarah Gibson, has slammed Thames Water after it was hit with a record £122.7 million fine for repeated sewage discharges.
“Thames Water has been failing for years – failing to invest, failing to maintain, and failing to deliver,” said Sarah Gibson MP. “Meanwhile, people in Royal Wootton Bassett have been slapped with high bills, poor service, and environmental harm from Thames Water’s failure to get to grips with their sewage crisis.
“When people here are struggling with the cost of living, Thames Water hikes bills by 35% and the company still fights the regulator for more,” Sarah Gibson MP said. “Enough is enough. It is time to take water services out of the hands of shareholders and put the public first.”
The Liberal Democrats are calling for Thames Water to become a Public Benefit Company and for OFWAT to be replaced by a tougher, independent regulator with real powers to stop pollution and hold water companies to account.
