Closure of Calne Town Centre's Post Office
Dear Resident,
I am writing to you about the planned closure of the Post Office branch in the centre of Calne.
The branch is closing because Morrisons Daily has decided to close its store, leaving the Post Office without a home. The Post Office is actively trying to find a suitable new location in Calne, but unfortunately it now appears unlikely that a replacement branch will be ready before Morrisons Daily closes.
This is deeply concerning. Post Offices do not simply provide somewhere to send parcels or collect post; they offer vital banking, bill payment and pension services and serve as an important community hub. These services are particularly important for older residents, people without access to a car and those who cannot easily travel elsewhere.
I have contacted the Post Office to press for urgent action and to ask what plans are being made to restore these essential services as quickly as possible. Calne should not be left without convenient access to a Post Office, and I will continue working with the Post Office and local organisations to help identify a suitable new location.
Please support my campaign by signing the petition overleaf or online.
This will help demonstrate the seriousness of the situation and ensure that Calne is not forgotten while the Post Office remains without a permanent home in the town centre.
Together, we can send a clear message that Calne needs and deserves a permanent Post Office in the town centre.
Yours sincerely,
Sarah Gibson, Member of Parliament for Chippenham, Calne, Corsham and Royal Wootton Bassett
