How I voted in the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill

How I Voted

I wanted to let people know how I voted on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.

Due to recovering from a serious illness, I used a proxy vote—this means another MP voted exactly as I instructed, regardless of their own views.

I supported the Bill at its Second Reading in November to ensure proper debate. Today, only one amendment was voted on—allowing health workers to opt out if assisted dying becomes legal. I voted for this, as I believe they too should have a choice.

The rest of the Bill has been postponed until June.

I have listened and engaged with many people on both sides of this debate and I continue to believe people deserve more choice at the end of life. However I know the serious nature of this bill and I do not take the decision lightly. I will continue to listen and I remain committed to respectful debate on this sensitive issue.
